Life time of the dual mass flywheel

Especially pay attention to the clutches with dual mass flywheel installed.

The dual mass flywheel as a part of the clutch kit, whic has replaced the classic flywheel, has started to be installed into the vehicles 15 years ago, today is a part of most of the modern vehicles. As the power of engines grew, so did the torque, RPM etc. This required the need for dual mass flywheel. The dual mass flywheel has the function to absorb impacts during the movement, during deceleration and gear shifts, and thus protects the gearbox from excess stress and damage.

The signifficance of the dual mass flywheel should not be overlooked while repairing and replacing the clutch. Some mechanics advise to replace the dual mass flywheel with fixed flywheel from a similar model.
The standard flywheel if installed on a vehicle designed for a DM flywheel can leed to gearbox damage and often to engine damage. Despite the fact that he DM flywheel is more expensive than the fixed, you should never accept the proposed conversion. The lif duration of a DM flywheel is from 150.000 km to 200.000 km and even more if the vehicle was used properly. The price could seem high, but considering the lifetime, the investment is justified.
The answer could be given in the following question: What is more expensive, gearbox or the clutch ?
On all the vehicles with DM flywheel, the gearbox is also built so it can bear smaller impacts and stress (sharp start, sudden gear shift, agressive motor braking etc.) so the fixed flywheel would certainly not be the adequate choice.
Important: After installing the fixed flywhell instead of the DM flywheel, performance of the vehicle can be altered. This especially affects acceleration and maximum speed with engine emitting strange noise. Also in these cases often happens that the engine does not work evenly in neutral. This is all from the fact that the fixed  flywheel does not have the same weight as the original DM flywheel, which leads to above mentioned changes on the engine.
